Anti-wrinkle vs Dermal Filler

Anti-wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle is a great way to dip your toes into the world of injectables, very minimal discomfort but with amazing results. Compared to filler, anti-wrinkle does not give volume or contour the face, they do however rectify pesky fine lines and wrinkles that develop as we age. The injections are also known as neuromodulators which temporarily stop the motion of the muscles in the treated area, in turn reducing the appearance of wrinkles. The substance used is a natural, purified protein and neurotoxin which inhibit the transmission of neurotransmitters from nerve to muscle, stopping the muscle from contracting and forming a wrinkle.

Wrinkles are created from muscles repeatedly contracting in the exact same spot, we can actually prevent this with anti-wrinkle injections as the injections stop the continuous contracting of the muscle. We adore anti-wrinkle injections as they’re a non-surgical solution for wrinkles, loss of volume and rejuvenation. The most popular areas to opt for ‘botox’ is around the eyes (crows feet), forehead and frown, marionette lines and platysma bands (the muscle that runs vertically down both sides of the neck). Other common areas are around the lower face including smokers lines, gummy smile and lip flips. Lip flips are fabulous for those who are wanting a very slight lift on the upper lift to give the illusion of a bigger pout, but without filler.

Anti-wrinkle is also a really great way to combat excessive sweating on the palms and underarms, teeth grinding, slimming of the jaw line and also to treat chronic migraines. The effects of anti-wrinkle injections can last between 3-5 months. Your metabolism will play a role in how long your injectables last for, the faster your metabolism, the faster your anti-wrinkle will dissolve within the body.

Like all any cosmetic procedure there are some rare risks involved. After anti-wrinkle injections you may experience mild swelling, bruising and head aches. Side effects will subside quickly by can be treated by using a vibration device or by icing the area. If you are pregnant, you cannot get anti-wrinkle or fillers, you’ll have to wait until that little one is born before coming back into clinic for these treatments.

Dermal Filler Injections

Loss of volume in our facial tissue is another tell tale sign of ageing. A hollowness will start to develop around the nose, mouth and cheeks and to combat this we choose dermal filler to replace the lost volume. Fillers will smooth, contour, plump and firm the treated areas to give a more youthful appearance.

Dermal filler is an aesthetic gel-based substance called Hyaluronic Acid that is injected into the skin to create volume and shape the face. This substance also works to hydrate and revitalise the skin. The Hyaluronic Acid imitates the natural substance within the body that is a component of the skin’s connective tissue. Dermal filler’s revitalise and add the volume instantly! Your results are visible after just one treatment and will last between 8 – 12 months.  Longevity will depend on the thickness of the product used and the client’s biological makeup, along with the areas being treated. We do recommend getting a top up at about the 6 month mark.

As the product used in filler injectables is biodegradable, it will naturally disappear over time and be absorbed by your body. This is completely normal and safe. The most popular areas to treat are the lips, nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines), cheeks and chin.

We cannot treat clients who have an exisiting skin diseases, inflammation or any other skin related problems – this is for your safety. Just like anti-wrinkle, fillers are not appropriate for anyone who is pregnant. Depending on the individual, fillers are relatively painless as we do apply numbing cream to the area being treated. Client’s will experience a slight pinching sensation as the needle is injected, and then further stinging as the product is dispersed in the treated area.
