A lot of questions have risen about the safety of receiving any injectable treatments close to the COVID vaccines and what is the best time to wait in between them.

There is already a lot of misconception surrounding this and a lot of unreliable information. So, our registered nurses at GC Skin have taken the time to do their own medical and reliable research to answer your questions.

The COVID vaccine like any vaccine activates our immune system, creating an inflammatory response. You might have noticed if you ever have a flu your face can become a bit swollen or puffy, this is the immune system working to create antibodies to fight of the flu and by doing this the body retains fluid, causing swelling.

Dermal fillers love water! So, we can naturally expect a bit of extra swelling receiving dermal filler treatments close to any flu vaccine, including the COVID vaccine. However, swelling in the area of dermal filler is not a major concern and it is easily treated with at home treatment such as, anti histamine tablets and applying ice to the area.

Anti wrinkle injections, contain the golden ingredient Botulinum Toxin A and work to temporarily relax the facial muscle by blocking the chemical signal from the nerve to the muscle. There is no indication that this treatment should have a negative effect on the COVID vaccine or the outcome of the anti-wrinkle treatment.

However, the truth is much like the connection between injectables and pregnancy, there is simply not yet enough research to know whether it is or isn’t harmful.

With every vaccine there are risks of mild side effects and having cosmetic treatments close to any vaccine can make it difficult to differentiate the true cause of the mild side effect.
